Bad Talents® is the creative identity of Los Angeles–based artist Shelby Alexander. Working in mixed media, she blends painting, mark-making, and material exploration to create emotionally driven, abstract work. She earned a B.A. in Visual Art from the University of Notre Dame in 2014 and completed a residency at Art Share L.A. in early 2024.
Her latest series was created during the Château d'Orquevaux Residency in France, where the natural landscape inspired a looser, more intuitive style. The work reflects a shift toward fluid brushwork, earthy textures, and meditative energy.
Through Bad Talents®, Alexander explores identity, process, and imperfection—inviting viewers to connect with the raw, instinctive nature of her practice.
